Futures: Player Props

There is some pretty good value in the long term play prop markets. Here are my pick of them.

Most Receiving Yards

Julio Jones $19 (Bet365)

There is a reason the Falcons gave up so much to trade up for this kid, he is a stud, plain and simple. Julio is physically a massive unit, who has a tremendous burst of speed, making him a very dangerous deep threat. In his preseason outings he has notched up 240 yards and a touchdown on 13 receptions in just 6 quarters of action. If he can stay fit, then with an increased passing game expected Jones could well thrive. He has looked utterly unstoppable in preseason, building on his strong finish to 2011. Calvin Johnson deserves to be favourite but Jones is big overs at $19.

NFL Futures: Division Winner Multi’s

For those of you who enjoy a speculative bet at longer odds, Bet 365 have allowed their division winner markets to be multied. Whilst being hard to hit (not many saw the Niners/Broncos coming last season) they have the potential to pay off massively depending on how many divisions you include in them. Here is my thoughts on each of the divisions.

AFC North

This division is tough to call, it appears to be a 2 horse race, between the Steelers ($2.30), who start as favourites by the narrowest of margins and the Ravens at ($2.35). Last season the Ravens took the bragging rights as they swept their fierce rivals, providing the tiebreaker for a 12-4 deadlock, and despite the loss of Suggs I feel as though they could do so once again. The Steelers seem to be out of luck on the injury front in the preseason and Mike Wallace is continuing to hold out. That said, a 12-4 record with big Ben playing hurt for large parts of the season is no lean feat! Still if Flacco can take the next step then I see this side being a real force of the NFL. The Bengals and Andy Dalton ($5 ) shocked us all by making the playoffs last season but I still feel they are a little short on quality to challenge for this tough division. The Browns ($36) aren’t winning anything, except perhaps the number 1 pick. You can make a case for either of the big guns in this division but I narrowly favour the Ravens.

Suggested Bet: Ravens $2.35

NFL Future’s 2013: Superbowl Winners

Superbowl Winners

I don’t normally like betting on Superbowl winners this far out, so much can happen in the interim. Still, there is some value in the market now if you don’t mind your money being tied up for the long term. The three best value bets in my opinion are.

Houston Texans- $14 (Betfair)

This Texans side made the playoffs for the first time in franchise history last year, as they took advantage of a Peyton Manning-less division to seize the AFC South. They smashed the Bengals in their first ever playoff game and then pushed the Ravens all the way in the Divisional round despite the fact they were playing with third string quarterback, T.J.Yates under centre. With a fully fit Matt Schaub, hopefully throwing to a fully fit Andre Johnson, this Texans side should pose more of an offensive threat than the one that ended the 2011 season. Johnson is undoubtedly one of the very best receivers in the league and it is imperative that he remain fit and manage more than the 7 games he played last season. If he does, then this passing game has the potential to keep opposition safties occupied, allowing more room for their real strength.

NFL Gambling an Introduction

My name is Andrew Cooling, a journalism student from Australia with a passion for American Football. I have been betting on the NFL for the last 3 seasons now and after a very profitable season in 2011 I thought I would start up this blog as a way of practicing my writing and hopefully sharing a few good tips in the process.

I posted most of my plays on this forum last season for those interested, Username Drewy_GFC http://www.thisisafl.com/forums/f71/nfl-college-football-gambling-533

Hopefully the 2012/2013 season can prove to be just as successful, I have certainly found myself getting better and learning more each season and am confident of having a great season.
